When 45 Homers Took Over Santa Monica

A Creator‑Driven Flash Mob for The Simpsons x Fortnite

To celebrate the launch of the new Simpsons map in Fortnite, the team needed a moment big enough — and weird enough — to break through the noise. The brief was simple: create something unforgettable, instantly shareable, and unmistakably Simpsons.

We partnered with media publisher Pubity to produce a social‑first activation featuring 45 custom‑built Homer Simpson costumes (crafted by the incredible team at iam8bit). Then we unleashed them on Santa Monica.

The result: a full‑scale Homer flash mob dancing through the streets, surprising bystanders, creating spontaneous photo‑ops, and generating the kind of joyful chaos the internet can’t resist.

We intentionally filmed the moment like creators — fast, loose, and entirely on phones. No large cameras, no visible production footprint. You can even see our team in the shot capturing it on their own devices. This approach made the moment feel organic and newsworthy, increasing authenticity and boosting the likelihood of media pickup.

Within hours, the footage was online and already taking off.

Theory of Change

Sometimes less is more.

When a moment feels real, people share it. By shooting this activation in a user‑generated style, we made the footage look like something anyone could have captured — not a staged stunt. That authenticity helped the content travel quickly, earning both massive social engagement and widespread press coverage.

This approach turned a physical activation into a viral cultural moment, proving that creator‑native storytelling can move just as fast — and just as far — as mission‑driven campaigns.

Impact

  • 50 million+ views across platforms
  • Close to 1 million likes
  • Coverage from Complex, Barstool, Gamespot, and TV outlets around the world
  • A surprise cameo from The Simpsons creator Matt Groening, who showed up in person to witness the madness

This activation showed that when you combine cultural IP, creator‑native storytelling, and a little joyful absurdity, you can turn a simple idea into a global moment.
